House Training Puppies

Owning a puppy is a big responsibility as you will have to care for it just like you take care of a small child. So, just the way you train your kid to become a good and obedient child, you also have to house train your puppy to become a obedient and well trained dog.

Here are a few tips to house train your puppy fast and efficiently:

Firstly, have a realistic approach towards training your pup. They are still very young and may not be able to catch up to your pace of training so you will have to be extremely patient with them to see successful results.

Every dog has a different behavior, character and level of learning. Try to understand your dog’s behavior and make him comfortable in his new surroundings. You should initially try to notice if your dog is sober and calm or has the aggressive streak and modify your training accordingly.

You should introduce him to every family member and also ask them to lend a hand in training the puppy so that he will learn faster. He will also feel comfortable and relaxed in an environment where he is given attention and is loved. This will also help in case he makes mistakes and you are not around. Like, if he spoils the floor and you are not around, a family member will clean it and instruct your puppy not to do it again. This way he will be house trained faster.

When it comes to potty training, you can start by learning when the times he shows restleassness are and accordingly take him outside to relieve himself. He should be made aware of the surroundings where he can do his business and where he should not. In case he tries to do potty in the house, be firm and use words like “no potty” or “no” so that he learns that he cannot relieve himself in the house. You can then train him on how to do his business outside by using commands like “go potty” and praise him when he does the right job.

Keeping a schedule of his feeding schedule will be very helpful during home training. If he gets to eat whenever he feels like, it will become hard for you to train him and you will also not get an idea of his potty timing which is very important in the early stages of home training.

Try to get your pup a crate so that he has his own designated place in the house. This way, he will understand territory and cleanliness since dogs do not go potty in their spots. Make sure that the crate is big enough for the pup to stand, sleep and walk around a bit but not big enough that he makes a corner to do his business.

House training a puppy is an easy task as long as you love to spend time with your puppy. This way, it will be a cordial relationship between you and your pup and he will also feel like obeying you instead of treating it as a command.
